About Us

The New Mexico Water Conservation Alliance (NMWCA) is a non-profit, professional organization that promotes water conservation and efficiency in New Mexico. The NMWCA was founded in the 1990’s when the first municipalities in New Mexico implemented water conservation programs. It continues to connect and support professionals who work in the water conservation and efficiency fields across the State. 

The NMWCA is a proud partner of the Alliance for Water Efficiency, which serves as our fiscal sponsor. Partnering with over 500 member organizations, the Alliance for Water Efficiency promotes the efficient and sustainable use of water in North America.

The NMWCA is governed by a five-person volunteer board. 2025 board members are:

The NMWCA Bylaws are rules established by the membership that establish how the NMWCA is governed. They define membership, officers of the board, board member duties, membership meetings, and committees. The NMWCA Bylaws were last updated in April 2022.   

The 2023-2027 NMWCA Strategic Plan guides the NMWCA’s activities and provides a framework for assessing the organization’s effectiveness over a five-year planning period. Strategic planning was conducted as a collaborative process facilitated over one year by the Bernalillo County Operations Excellence Office, which oversees strategic planning for Bernalillo County. Outcomes of the strategic plan include:

    • Vision: Promote awareness and coordinate action on water conservation and efficiency statewide.
    • Mission: Support and serve as a resource for professionals who work in water conservation and efficiency.
  • Our What:
    • Goal 1: Provide support for the water conservation/efficiency professional community.
    • Goal 2: Promote awareness and coordinate action on water conservation and efficiency.
    • Goal 3: Build organizational capacity.
    • Goal 4: Expand reach statewide.
  • Our How:
    • The 2023-2027 NMWCA Strategic Plan establishes objectives (short-term outcomes or deliverables needed to achieve the goals) and action items (tasks to be performed to achieve the objectives).

Membership

The NMWCA is composed of member organizations and individual members in the water conservation and efficiency field. Any organization or individual with a professional or volunteer interest in water conservation and/or related fields qualifies for membership in the organization. Annual membership dues are $300 for organizations and $35 for individuals.
